In 2014 the Light Theater Company took an adventure to the magical land of Narnia when they performed C.S. Lewis's The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. In this classic adventure, Pevensie children Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy journey through the land of Narnia. They discover Narnia through a wardrobe and along the way they meet some captivating characters including Mr. and Mrs. Beaver, the evil White Witch, the great lion Aslan. They find out, through their new friends the Beavers, that the White Which has taken over the land and that she always makes it winter, "always winter and never Christmas". The great Aslan is coming back to save Narnia. While there is so much to love about this story, the Light Theater's favorite part about The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is the beautiful depiction of redemption that it displays. In Narnia there is old magic that says "when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backward."
One of the most exciting ways that we brought this play to life was through the "mane" character Aslan who was an 8-foot-tall puppet operated by three people, his size gave him a considerable presence on stage. Another way we added to this production was through by choreographing live sword fighting on stage during the battle scene. But the world of Narnia wouldn't be complete without its captivating woodland creatures; we had lots of exciting costumes for those characters including a hedgehog, a hare, a fox, a squirrel and many more.
